What do students do each day? What do I do each day?

Moving to a self-paced classroom is empowering for both teachers and students. That first unit, though, can feel a bit overwhelming. Instead of detailed lesson plans with every minute accounted for, you now have a flexible plan that changes based on what your students need.

To help you get started, below is a suggested calendar to go along with “The Night Sky”, our mini unit you can download for free here.

Having a fluid mindset is key in a self-paced classroom. Some days you won’t check in with many students. Other days, you will touch base with everyone and students will spend all hour diligently working.

Self-pacing allows for calm in the face of last minute assemblies, fire drills and unplanned sick days - both for you and students! Just pick up where you left off and keep on going.
